Dimensional weight calculator - how to determine the correct weight for shipping

Modified on Sat, 27 Jan 2024 at 07:23 PM

To calculate the correct weight for accurate shipping, you may need to determine the dimensional weight (also known as volumetric weight) of your package, as well as its actual weight.

Most carriers will charge according to whichever is greater, actual or dimensional weight. Different carriers may use different cubic conversion factors and calculations to determine dimensional weight.

The calculators provided in the Dimensional Weight Calculator are for two popular Australian carriers AUSPOST and DHL. To best calculate shipping for your ecommerce products, determine (a) the actual weight in kgs and (b) the dimensional weight, and then enter the value that is greater in the product weight field.

Example:

A product’s actual weight is 1.2kg.

Its dimensions are 20cm x 20cm x 20cm.

Calculate (Australia Post) dim weight: 0.2 x 0.2 x 0.2 x 250 = 2kg

The product’s dim weight is greater than its actual weight.

Enter the dim weight into the weight field of your ecommerce product.
